Frequently Asked Questions
How do I add a new task?
▼
Tap the + button in the top-right corner of the Home or Tasks screen. Fill in the task name, choose a category, set the time, and tap "Add Task". You can choose between Fixed, Floating, Concurrent, or Milestone task types.
What are the different task types?
▼
Fixed — scheduled at a specific time with a duration. Floating — no specific time, do anytime. Concurrent — runs alongside another task. Milestone — a deadline marker with no duration.
How do categories work?
▼
DayZen comes with built-in categories (Work, Exercise, Study, etc.) and you can create custom ones. Go to Settings → Category Library to add, edit, reorder, or pin your favorite categories. Frequently used categories appear first when adding tasks.
How do notifications work?
▼
When adding a task, you can set a reminder (5, 10, 15, 30, or 60 minutes before). After a task ends, DayZen sends a check-in notification asking if you completed it. You can respond with "Done", "Skipped", or "Remind me later".
Can I sync tasks with Apple Calendar?
▼
Yes! When adding a task, enable the "Add to Calendar" toggle. DayZen will create an event in your default Apple Calendar. You'll need to grant calendar permission when prompted. This sync is local only — no data is sent to any server.
Where is my data stored?
▼
All data is stored locally on your device using iOS's built-in storage system. Nothing is sent to external servers. Your data is protected by iOS encryption and sandboxing. You can delete all data from Settings → Clear All Tasks.
What are task dependencies?
▼
You can make a task depend on another, meaning it can't be completed until the dependency is finished. Tap a task to open details, scroll to "Depends on", and add a dependency. Blocked tasks show a lock icon.
How do streaks work?
▼
A streak counts consecutive days where you've completed at least one task. Your current streak is shown in the header and on the Statistics page. Complete all tasks in a day to trigger the celebration animation!
What is DayZen Pro?
▼
DayZen Pro is a weekly subscription ($1.99/week) that unlocks unlimited tasks and unlimited custom categories. Free users can add up to 5 tasks and 1 custom category. Pro also helps support ongoing development of DayZen.
How do I subscribe or cancel?
▼
You can subscribe from Settings → Pro inside the app. To cancel, go to your Apple ID settings: Settings → Apple ID → Subscriptions → DayZen Pro → Cancel. The subscription will remain active until the end of the current billing period.
How do I restore my purchase?
▼
If you reinstalled the app or switched devices, go to Settings → Pro → Restore Purchases. This will re-activate your subscription if it's still valid on your Apple ID.
💡 Troubleshooting Tips
- Notifications not working? Go to iOS Settings → DayZen → Notifications and ensure they're enabled. Also check that DayZen notification permission is set in Settings within the app.
- Calendar sync not working? Go to iOS Settings → DayZen → Calendars and grant access. Then re-enable the toggle in DayZen's settings.
- App feels slow? If you have a very large number of tasks, try clearing completed tasks from previous weeks.
- Lost your data? DayZen data is stored locally. If you deleted and reinstalled the app, local data cannot be recovered.
- Task not appearing? Make sure you selected the correct day when adding the task. Check the day selector at the bottom of the Add Task screen.
